Frequently Asked Questions
Try the rescan button again, sometimes it misses the bulbs connection. If that doesn't work, try resetting the bulb. This will remove WiFi credentials and you will reconnect the bulb to the TUO App.
Make sure that:
- >The TUO app has location and bluetooth connection permissions enabled.>You have WiFi with 2.4Ghz band available and does not require a secondary login. These are common at offices, hotels, and coffee shops.>Your device is within 10 feet of the device.>Make sure that you have the latest version of the TUO app installed.
Cycle the bulb power off and back on 5-6 times within 8 seconds until it flashes RED and leave it on after the red flashes. If you accidentally cycle the power one more time, continue again until you see the RED and leave on. This will reset the bulb and erase any WiFi information, returning it to factory settings.
After 10 seconds of lighting up, and within 10 minutes, try reconnecting to the bulb through the TUO app. Do not connect directly to the TUO_Bulb_XXX bluetooth signal with your phone directly.
If your bulb is flickering, not turning on, showing incorrect colors, or has stopped working entirely, please contact our customer support team. We'll help troubleshoot the issue and arrange a replacement if the bulb is found to be defective.
Make sure to have your order number and a description of the issue ready. Most defective bulbs are replaced within 5-7 business days.
Common app issues include sync problems, crashes, or features not working as expected. Try these steps:
- Make sure you have the latest version of the TUO app installed from the App Store or Google Play
- Force close the app and restart it
- Check your phone's operating system is up to date
- Ensure the app has all necessary permissions enabled (Bluetooth, Location, Notifications)
- If issues persist, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app
If you continue experiencing problems after trying these steps, please contact our support team with details about your device model and operating system version.

It's best if TUO's light is the dominant light near you. TUO Circadian Smart Bulbs work best when you're within 6 ft (2m) of the bulb. If you have multiple bulbs in the same area, TUO's effects are magnifying so you can be further away. Be especially careful to stay close during your wake mode. This is the mode most impacted by distance.
Use Wake mode right when you wake up. This is the most important time to be exposed to circadian influencing light. This will not only improve your sleep, but will also improve your mood and alertness throughout the day. For users who wake up hours before the desired wake-up time, additional exposure to Wake mode may be required 2-3 hours prior to going to sleep. It may take 2-4 weeks of morning light therapy to see full sleep improvement. This won't be permanent, so continue usage to maintain your circadian rhythm health.
Use Wake mode in the morning and Active mode throughout the day to improve and maintain focus. If you're slowing down after a large lunch or have an afternoon slump, use Wake mode for 15-20 minutes to get a boost of energy.
Use Wake mode in the morning upon waking to start the day off right. Then use Active mode throughout the day to keep your circadian system stimulated. Additional 15-minute therapy sessions with Wake mode may be required. Simply fire off Wake mode in short bursts when you need a boost.
A few days in advance of travel, begin using Wake mode for approximately 30 minutes for every hour that you will be losing or gaining. If traveling east, use Wake mode in the morning upon waking up for the suggested amount of time (in addition to your normal Wake mode schedule). If traveling west, use Wake mode in the evening to delay your circadian rhythm. You can also do this upon arrival at your new destination.
Yes, the TUO Circadian Smart Bulb can display millions of colors. You can manually change colors through the TUO app or use the preset circadian modes (Wake, Active, Calm, Sleep) that automatically adjust the color temperature and brightness throughout the day to support your circadian rhythm.
TUO bulbs require a 2.4GHz WiFi band to connect. Most modern routers broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, but the bulb can only connect to 2.4GHz. Make sure your router has this band enabled and that you're connecting to the 2.4GHz network during setup.
TUO lights can be effective at lower light levels, such as 200-300 lux, compared to the 10,000 lux required by traditional SAD lamps. TUO lights activate the visual cones that are upstream from melanopsin cells and are far more sensitive. Our color vision constantly activates melanopsin cells, which signal both the SCN (for circadian regulation) and mood centers. TUO lights trigger these same pathways, helping with mood regulation and mitigating SAD symptoms at normal light intensities throughout the day.
You might notice mild pulsating if you stare directly at the bulb. This is due to the uneven distribution of vision cones in your eyes, particularly the higher density of short-wavelength cones in certain areas. This is normal and not harmful. The effect should be minimal when the light is used normally (not staring directly at it).
Circadian chronotypes describe your body's natural sleep-wake cycle. There are three main types:
- Early Circadian Phenotype (Early Bird, 28% of population): Most productive in the morning, go to bed early
- Intermediate Circadian Phenotype (Rooster, 48% of population): Balanced schedule, energetic throughout the day
- Late Circadian Phenotype (Night Owl, 24% of population): Alert and productive in evening/late night
TUO's Circadian Plan adjusts Wake lighting duration in mornings and Calm duration in evenings based on your chronotype. Late types start Calm mode 4-5 hours before sleep, while Early types need less time.
